Deal For Anthony Yarde To Face Joshua Buatsi Could Be ‘Thrashed Out’ This Week, Says Promoter

Ben Shalom is unconcerned about reports of Frank Warren struggling to agree terms with Anthony Yarde for a potential fight with Joshua Buatsi.

The promoters have agreed a 50-50 purse split for a fight between the rival light heavyweights at a venue in London in June, but Warren, of Queensberry Promotions, recently spoke of the need for Yarde and his manager and trainer Tunde Ajayi to accept the agreement that exists so that the fight can proceed.

Outside of a date between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, one between the 32-year-old Yarde and Buatsi is perhaps the most sought-after in British boxing, and Boxxer’s Shalom said: “That’s not my side, so it’s hard to speculate on what they’re negotiating on, but I’m sure they’ll come to a solution.

“[Yarde’s] under pressure to take the fight regardless, but I’ve seen his interviews – he wants the fight as well. Everyone wants the fight. You can’t blame the promoter and the fighter for wanting to get the best terms for themselves. That’s normal. It’s positive and it’s looking like the fight will happen.

“[I’m] not concerned at all. Ultimately, I know what it’s like. Every fighter’s different and every situation’s different. The positive thing is it’s clear both fighters, in my opinion, want the fight. Both promoters want the fight. There’s a deal in principle. It’s positive. It’s the only fight everyone’s talking about.”

Buatsi, 31, recorded his finest victory when in February he outpointed Dan Azeez, and he was then ringside to watch Yarde stop Marko Nikolic a week later.

“The fight’s agreed, in terms of between the promoters,” Shalom continued. “We’re all good with Josh. I think he said that – I think Frank said himself, him and Anthony are just trying to come to an agreement. Everyone wants the fight. It’s the biggest fight for both of them.

“It’s the right time. I hope we get it on soon. I think we’re all gonna try and sit down in a room [this] week with the fighters there and thrash everything out.”
